Melba Kay Rucker, also known as Kay or Sam, was a devoted sister, stepmother, and aunt. She died peacefully at her home in Topeka, KS on July 18, 2025, after a long illness. She was 85 years old.
Kay was born in McComb, Ohio. She married William H. Rucker on December 28, 1971, spending their lives together in Topeka. He preceded her in death October 12, 1995. Kay lived a life rooted in love.
She retired from Jostens in Topeka to take care of her mother who was ill and was an avid bowler.
Kay is survived by her sister Patricia Wells, other family members, Debra Pahura, Ann (David) Lynch, and Sheree (Gary) Bicknell, nieces, Deborrah Forman, Dawn Wahwassuck, Kimberly Ortiz, a nephew, Cody Forman, grandchildren, Kristie Welder, Laura Scarborough, Spencer Wolff, Derek Bicknell, along with extended family.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, William H Rucker, her parents, Ellen and James Berno, nephews, David Forman, and Craig Forman, and a grandson, Drew Bicknell.
A celebration of life for Kay is scheduled for August 2, 2025, from 2-4 pm, at the church she attended with Pat at Southwest Christian Church, 5747 SW Huntoon, Topeka KS.
In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Phoenix Hospice, 2945 SW Wanamaker Drive, Suite B, Topeka, KS 66614.
To know her was to be deeply, fiercely and without reservations. She always had time for all. Her family and friends meant everything to her and she made sure they always knew it. In return, she was cherished beyond measure by all who had the privilege of being part of her life.
