Mary Lou Wood

January 22, 1948 — September 10, 2022

Mary Lou (Miles)Wood,74, died after long illness on September 10,2022 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on January 22,1948 at the Bellville Hospital to Charles Gerald and Mona Irene (Logan) Miles.

Mary graduated from Bellville High School in 1967. She attended Concordia Nursing School after graduating from high school. When done with school she moved to Topeka until her death. She worked at Memorial Hospital and Manor Care in Topeka for a long time. She stopped working to care for her husband until his death in 2008.

Mary was married to Darrell (Woody)Wood for 27 years before his death in 2008. Mary enjoyed her adopted family of friends at the Genesis Health Club in Topeka. Her friends meant so much to her and over the years they had many escapades. She enjoyed going to the casino whether she was winning or losing. The last few years she would talk on the phone with her Uncle Rex daily to see what the family was up to, plus daily she would send text messages to her cousins to make sure everyone was doing okay.

Mary greatly enjoyed going to the health club to keep in shape along with the socialization. She enjoyed watching the Chief's, Royals and K-state teams play while being very vocal on what she thought about the games. The last few years she would, through the connection of Facebook, have ongoing conversations about the games with her family and friends. She would keep all informed if there was a moon out and what the weather was doing.

Mary is survived by her Uncle Rex and Aunt Inez Logan in Nebraska, niece Renee Miles, nephews Terry Miles, Chuck Miles, and Dwayne Lowther from Washington along with many cousins, great nieces and nephews. Her special friend Dennis Norby from Topeka who took such good care of her even when she was not having a good day. She will be greatly missed by her close friends, Dana Hahn of Topeka, who came whenever she called, Annette Unden of Georgia, a lifelong friend, who she spoke with every day so that they knew the other was okay, and Judy Rice of Topeka who was a friend from the time she first moved to Topeka as a young woman. These friends all knew her for most of her adult life and meant so much to her.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Woody, parents Gerald and Mona, both of her brothers Terry and Rodney, her Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Alice.

Cremation was desired with no funeral at this time but there will be a celebration of life planned later.

Memorials may be sent to the Hospice House "Midland Care" 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka Kansas, 66606.
