Mary Jane Trulove Heacock, a cherished soul left this world for her heavenly home on November 29, 2025, at Midland Hospice House, following a massive stroke.
Mom was born on February 13, 1932, in Topeka, KS, to Rufus W. and Georgia F. Gurtler-Trulove the youngest of 5 children. Mom's life was a tapestry of love, faith, and enduring strength, woven through 93 years of cherished memories.
Mom had a deep appreciation for the arts and drama. She was taught the piano, and later the cello and played in the orchestras at Curtis Junior High and Topeka High School. Music was always a great love in her life.
Mom attended Quincy grade school, Curtis Junior High and graduated from Topeka High class of 1950. At Topeka High she was on the Cheer Squad all three years.
She was married to 1st Lieutenant Donald Heacock on August 3, 1952, in the Protestant Chapel, Forbes Field, Topeka, KS. Mom was employed by Southwestern Bell from 1950 to 1955 when she left to join her husband stationed on Guam. Mom later retired from Ohse Meat Packing Company after 28 years of service.
She was preceded in death by husband Donald Sr., her parents, sister Florence Trulove-Root, brothers William Trulove, Robert Trulove and Donald Trulove, niece Nancy Root-Stonebraker, and daughter Anita Heacock-Boden. She is survived by daughters Debra Heacock Topeka, KS, and Andrea Heacock-Brewster (Pat) Silver Lake, KS and son Dr. Donald Heacock II Topeka, KS. Sister-in-law Sharon Trulove Topeka, KS, nephew Rodney Root (Vickie) Topeka, KS, niece Lorraine Darby-Williams Eugene, OR. Six grandchildren, Chris Boden (Sara) Lincoln, CA, Jason Brewster (Julie) Silver Lake, KS, Phillip Boden Lodi, CA, Justin Brewster (Christine) Topeka, KS, Veronica Boden-Mangrich (Dave) Woodbridge, CA, Joe Brewster (Lolly) Plainville, KS, 16 Great-grandchildren, several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
Fiercely independent she loved to tend her garden into her 90's. Mom was very proud of the fact she had voted in every election since turning eighteen and felt it was her civic duty to do so. Mom was a lifelong knitter. She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church, was a charter member of Daughters of the King, a member of the Altar Guild and in the Hand Chimes choir. Mom started the prayer shawl ministry at St. David's. She was also a member of the Hand Bell Choir at 1st Baptist Church of Topeka. Mom was a former member of Helena Chapter of Eastern Star and a 30 year member of the Arab Shrine Ladies, DF Chapter of PEO, and The Red Hat Society, a volunteer for Grace Hospice, Lets Help and Doorstep.
A Celebration of the Resurrection and Thanksgiving for the Life will be held March 14, 2026 at 10:30 am with burial of her ashes to follow in St. David's courtyard next to Dad's.
