Mary Ellen "Sis" Parman

December 6, 1931 — August 12, 2023

Mary Ellen "Sis" Parman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on August 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at the Topeka HealthCare Resort. Born December 6, 1931 in the peaceful town of Silver Grove, Kentucky, she lived a life filled with profound faith, boundless love, and generous service to others.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Karen Jenny Haggard and Rebecca Whitney, who remember her as a fun loving generous sister. Her immediate family, Linda Kendall-Neal, Eve Kendall, Dee Moore, Lynann Kendall, Artie and Michelle Kendall will forever treasure their memories of a praying mother who loved them with all her heart. Her grandchildren, Kathryn, Sara, and Sam, and Alexandria Kendall, great-granddaughter Skylynn Hixon, will carry on her legacy of love and faith.

Mary was a woman of many talents as she worked in retail and food service. She loved cooking for others and was renowned for her Wilted lettuce and delicious peanut butter pie that brought joy to many. Her crafting, sewing, and decorating skills were unmatched, and her joy of moving furniture around legendary.

She dedicated her life to volunteering as she brought comfort to shut-ins, rest homes, hospitals, and veterans homes. Mary was a regular figure in numerous churches and organizations, where she was known for her "hug line," as many members patiently waited for the warmth of her embrace. Her faith was the guiding force behind her service, her love for people, and her unwavering commitment to help others.

Mary was a beacon of light in the lives of those she touched. She was loving, always ready with a comforting word or a warm hug. Her faith was unwavering, a testament to her belief in the goodness of the Lord. She was generous, always giving of herself to others. Her life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."

The memories of her love, her faith, and her generosity will continue to inspire and guide all those who were fortunate to have known her. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived, a life of service, and a life that exemplified the love of Christ.

Mary has run her race, kept the faith, and now wears the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous Judge, has awarded her."

In the words of the Psalmist, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants." (Psalm 116:15). Today, we bid farewell to a faithful servant, Mary Ellen "Sis" Whitney, confident in the knowledge that she rests in the arms of our Lord.

May her soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
