Mary Ann (Koch) Bulkley, known affectionately as Mary to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 87. Born on July 20, 1936, in Seneca, Kansas, Mary was the cherished daughter of William J. Koch and Clementine J. (Mueller) Koch. Her departure was preceded by her parents and all ten of her siblings, marking the end of a generation.
Mary's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of her hometown, and she graduated from Centralia High School in 1954. Her career was a testament to her dedication and work ethic, as she devoted two decades of service to Southwestern Bell before retiring in 1997. Mary's professional achievements were only surpassed by the love and commitment she had for her family.
Mary's life was one of love and devotion, both to her faith and her family. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Bulkley, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. Together, they raised two daughters, Debra Biester and Cheryl Atherly, who brought joy and purpose to Mary's life. Her legacy continued to flourish through her four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought a sparkle to her eye and warmth to her heart.
Those who knew Mary will remember her for her loving and friendly nature. She was a woman of deep faith, and her actions reflected the love and kindness she held within. Mary's interests were as warm and genuine as her personality. She had a passion for sewing, creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Antiquing was another favorite pastime, where she found joy in discovering treasures from the past. Most importantly, Mary cherished the time spent with her family, and she was a constant source of love and support for them.
Mary's presence was a gift to those around her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbors. Her warmth, friendliness, and faith-filled spirit were the hallmarks of her life. Mary's memory will be treasured and kept alive through the stories and traditions she passed down to those she loved.
