Mark L. Winters, 77, of Topeka, KS, passed away Monday, November 15, 2016. A graveside memorial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry, KS, on 12/14/2016 at 10 am.
Mark was born in Chandler, OK. Most of his childhood was spent in Logan, Kansas. Mark attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, taking degrees in Latin (BA, 1961), German/Education (BS, 1971), and German (MA, 1974). Between his Bachelor degrees, he served with Army Intelligence in Germany. When he returned to Kansas, he taught High School German for a few years. He then took a job with Santa Fe Railroad as a Dispatcher. He later worked in the accounting and payroll department before retiring.
After retiring from Santa Fe, Mark finally got to spend time with his love of animals. He was always rescuing cats and finding them homes either through the CAT Association of Topeka or with himself. He also loved feeding the birds, squirrels, raccoons and opossums in his backyard.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Oswald L. Winters, and mother Alice Swaggerty Winters. He is survived by an aunt, Belva Swaggerty of Perry, KS, and numerous cousins.
