Marcia Ruth Willie, a treasured soul whose love and kindness touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, surrounded by family, in her hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Born on November 23, 1941. Marcia's journey was one of creativity, love, and an unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
A loving mother and sibling, Marcia's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving children: Pete Paterson (Lisa), Lori McNorton (Tom), Theresa Patterson (Cecil), Cheri Bennett (Rick), Don Garst (Patty), Scott Garst (Trish), and Robin Wagner (Patrick). Her brothers Merral Root, Leslie Root (Susan), Jesse Root, and her sister Yvonne Raber (Charles). Marcia's legacy also includes her role as a beloved Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother, a role she embraced with every fiber of her being. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse, and Mildred (Black) Root, husbands, Donald Garst and Michael Willie, and her granddaughter, Alisha Patterson, whose memories will remain in the hearts of those who knew them.
Marcia's career was as diverse and nurturing as her personal interests. From bookkeeping, serving in the food industry and later in the floral and greenhouse industry.
Colleagues knew Marcia as someone who not only had an eye for detail but also a heart for the people she worked with.
Marcia's passions extended beyond her work. She was an avid gardener, relishing the time spent "playing in the dirt" and tending to the blooms that adorned her home. Bird watching was another joy, providing moments of tranquility as she observed the beauty and grace of her feathered friends. An avid reader, Marcia often found herself lost in the pages of a good James Patterson book, the thrill of each plot twist and character provided endless entertainment.
Her home was a hub of warmth and hospitality, especially known for the gatherings on the back patio where family and friends would share stories and laughter over a "cold one." As the seasons turned, Marcia's love for her wood stove signified the cozy refuge she created during the fall and winter months, a testament to her making every space she inhabited a welcoming place.
As we say goodbye to Marcia Ruth Willie, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and deeply cherished. Her legacy of love, creativity, and kindness will continue to flourish in the lives of those she touched. Marcia's presence will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will remain a guiding force, inspiring us to live with the same compassion and warmth she shared so generously. Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Foundry Event Center, 400 SW 33rd St, Topeka, KS, (lunch will be provided).
