In loving memory of Lura Sue Reeves
Lura Sue Reeves of Topeka, Kansas, died April 24, 2026. She was 80.
Sue was born February 21, 1946, in Anthony, Kansas, to Vivian “Bud” East and Floydia June (Welch) East. She and four brothers were brought up on the family farm near Waldron. Stories of that time tell of a warm and hardworking farm family who filled their home with laughter, music, and hospitality for friends and family.
She graduated from high school at Hazelton in 1964 and enrolled in a cosmetology school in Dodge City, where she met and married Leland Lynn Lightcap. Married for ten years, they had two sons, Tony and Torey, who were brought up in Oklahoma.
For many years, Sue was the faculty secretary at the prestigious College of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK. She accounted it her great privilege to work alongside a stable of wonderful friends and to assist in the formation of a generation of pharmacists.
While living in western Oklahoma, she married Johnny Morris. He died in 1990. In 1994, she moved to Wichita, KS, and lived in that area until recently. While in Wichita she married Edd Reeves. He died in 2023.
Sue will be remembered as a gentle, compassionate person of deep Christian commitment who consistently “walked the talk” of her faith. Her many Bibles are lined with margin notes and stuffed with handouts acquired over a lifetime of study. She was glad that God had given her such joy, contentment, and generosity that she was happy to share with others. This she did primarily by listening to anyone who was having a hard time and just needed a nonjudgmental ear.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: David, Gerald, and Buddy East; and a stepson, Keith Morris. She is survived by her brother Clint (Becky) East of Zenda, KS; sons Tony Lee Lightcap (Christina) of Broken Arrow, OK, and Torey Lynn (Jacqueline) Lightcap of Topeka, KS; and by three stepchildren, Matthew (Pam) Reeves of Wake Forest, NC; Megan (Cayle) Eurton of Wichita, KS, and Diana Morris. She leaves many special memories with grandchildren Blake Lightcap, Gabriel Lightcap, Julianna Lightcap, Benjamin Reeves, Tyler Reeves, and Brooke Cink.
A celebration of Sue’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 7404 E. Killarney Place, Wichita, KS 67206. She will be inurned at a later date next to her parents in Attica Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Sue’s memory to the Prairie Project c/o St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at the above address.
