Linda M. Curry, 59, of Junction City, Kansas passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on October 11, 2023. Linda was born on May 30, 1964, to Frank Stevens and Mary Bayes in Junction City, Kansas. She was the fourth of seven children. Linda spent most of her life in Kansas but had the occasional opportunity to travel the country. Linda loved Fall and Winter seasons more than any other because she was a diehard Denver Broncos and Kansas Jayhawks fan. As a lover NFL and college basketball, she loved to watch the games no matter who was playing.
Anyone who knew Linda would say she never knew a stranger. She had the innate ability to befriend anyone and everyone, no matter where she went. She was kind enough to pass this trait on to her daughters, even when they didn't want it. Linda was a professional at finding all the good deals and knowing all the best thrift shops in the area. She had a unique ability to find treasure everywhere she looked. She was a collector of all things, some of which her children wish she would have just thrown away. Linda loved working with her hands and could often be found working in her yard or refinishing furniture she found. Linda had a love for old Chevy trucks and restoring older classic vehicles. This led to her obtaining a certificate as an Auto Body Technician. Linda passed this trait on to her son, who has spent a lifetime repairing other people's vehicles. This trait he sometimes wishes she would have kept to herself as well.
Linda is preceded in death by her father Frank Stevens, stepmother Dolly Stevens, stepfather Clifford Kilgore, two nieces Crystal Baldock and Sara Stevens. Linda is survived by her husband of 22 years Dale Curry of the home and her asshole dog Simon as well as the neighborhood alarm system Eeyore (also a dog). She is also survived by her three children Kelly Hartzell and Jeromy Hartzell, both of Junction City, and Rachelle Gibson of Augusta, Kansas. She is also survived by her broke best friends, otherwise known as her 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Haley Cammarn, Payton Hartzell, Jasmine Cammarn, Brooklynn Linn, Logan Gibson, Greyson Hartzell, Braxton Pinkerton and Adley Pinkerton. Linda is also survived by her mother Mary McGuire of Salina and her siblings Cassandra Sanger, Frank Stevens Jr., Victoria Cox, Mary Jaime, Melissa Dunaway and Robert Stevens, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family has chosen to honor Linda's last wish to be cremated. Despite her adamant request, the family has chosen to go the legal route instead of throwing her body in a bonfire in the backyard. A self-proclaimed cheapskate at heart, she wanted to go the cheapest route possible. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the Good Shepherd Hospice team, especially Cassidy, Brooke and Fray for providing endless hours of support and guidance to the family and to Linda during this difficult transition. We are forever grateful for your kindness, patience, support and love. Without your help, we would have been unable to give mom the ability to pass at home surrounded by family and loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family will announce details when that is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family has set up an account for Linda's grandchildren to continue to allow her to provide the birthday and Christmas celebrations she loved to give each of them. If anyone would like to contribute, you can send any donations to the family home, and they will be deposited accordingly.
