Lawrence "David" Holmes

March 28, 1942 — May 25, 2024

Lawrence David Holmes, known affectionately as David or Dave to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, in Topeka, KS, at the age of 82. He was born in Kansas City, KS, on March 28, 1942.

David was a graduate of Topeka High School and Washburn University, where he earned his degree in accounting—a field that he dedicated his professional life to. He worked diligently at Adams Business Forms, where his meticulous nature and strong work ethic were well respected by colleagues and clients alike.

Beyond his professional life, David was a passionate sports enthusiast with a particular love for Kansas State. His loyalty to the team was unmatched and could be seen in his spirited support at games and nearly every article of clothing he owned! David's love for sports was best displayed by the great joy he found in golfing with his brothers and coaching his boys in various sports. This joy was only magnified when he had the chance to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren take to the field or court, where he was their most devoted fan.

David's interests were not limited to sports; he was also an avid traveler with cruises, the mountains, and trips to see family being his favorite destinations. He and Barbara planned numerous vacations together. Each trip was eagerly anticipated, with David setting countdowns on his phone for each upcoming adventure. These vacations were not just trips but lovingly crafted experiences that created lifelong memories for David and Barbara.

At home, David was the cornerstone of a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Holmes, and their three sons, Doug Holmes (Susan), Bret Holmes (Sue), and Danny Holmes (Julie). The legacy of his kindness and generosity lives on through his seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored.

Those who knew David would describe him as friendly, generous, and loving. The man didn't know a stranger. He was always up for conversation and would gladly offer his opinion on nearly any topic.

David's life was a testament to the importance of family. His unwavering support and unconditional love for his family were the hallmarks of his character.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of shared experiences. David's memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He has left a mark on this world, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

David's life will be honored and remembered in a private ceremony attended by his family.
