Lawrence Edward Good, known to many as Larry, passed away peacefully from natural causes on April 18, 2023, in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Born on September 17, 1939, Larry lived a full and meaningful life, touching the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor.
Larry was born in Topeka, Kansas to James and Opal (Loveland) Good. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Helen McGinnis, Teddy Good, Annie Herbig, and Betty Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Margie (DeLay) Good. His children Charla Kay Davison, Rhonda Clemmons, Todd Good (Janet), and Ashley Traxler (Joshua). Larry was also a proud grandfather to Chelsea Ashley, Connor Clemmons, Maddie Kroll (Alex), Sarah Clemmons, and Ryan Good, as well as a great-grandfather to Lucas Kroll.
Larry attended Topeka High School, where he developed a strong work ethic and a passion for all types of sports, especially basketball. After graduation, he bravely chose to serve his country as an Army veteran. Larry served overseas in Germany as part of Company C 54 Engineers-BN USAREUR and was honorably discharged in 1962. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and patriotism that he carried with him for the rest of his life.
Following his military service, Larry embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement, culminating in his retirement as a Captain from the Shawnee County Sheriff's Department in 1989. Throughout his career, Larry was known for his unwavering dedication to justice and his commitment to serving others. His colleagues and the community he served will remember him as a compassionate, fair, and dedicated public servant who always went above and beyond the call of duty.
In his personal life, Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished the time he spent with his family, whether it was gathering for a holiday meal, cheering on his grandchildren at sporting events, or simply sharing stories and laughter around the dinner table. Larry's love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he was a guiding light and source of strength for them all.
Larry enjoyed traveling and exploring local places.
As we mourn the loss of Larry, we also celebrate his life and the many ways he enriched our own. His memory will be forever etched in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him, and his impact on our lives will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry's memory to Helping Hands Humane Society or Midland Hospice, as a testament to his spirit of giving and his desire to make the world a better place.
