Larry “Ron” Myers, age 65, of Topeka and formerly of Columbus, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, after a long illness.
Born on July 7, 1960, in Columbus, Kansas, Ron was the son of Larry G. Myers and Helen(Delmont) Myers. His birth was memorable—he came into this world “butt first,” a sign even then that he was destined to be his own kind of person. He was a 1977 graduate of Columbus Unified High School and also earned a certificate from Columbus Vo-tech inautomotive technology – he could fix anything!
Ron was known for living life to the fullest. He approached every day with a unique spirit, embracing his individuality and making the most of every moment. Despite his illness, he maintained his sense of humor and zest for life. Near the end, he remarked that although he was tired, he felt like he still had more “hell raising” left to do, but God had other plans for him.
Ron was very proud to have graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center Part-time Basic Officer Training Class #21. He was a part-time member of the Columbus Police Department. He wanted to be the officer that treated people with dignity and respect. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Fixing things was not something Ron shied away from – he was a master at taking old or broken things and bringing them back to life. He found peace in being in the outdoors – riding his motorcycle, camping or fishing. He had the best green thumb and could produce the most beautiful flowers or enough veggies to share with others. Training his dogs and caring for them was something close to his heart – he was always willing to take on a new member to care for.
He is survived by his wife Elna; his son Jesse Myers; his beloved grandchildren, Mya Myers and Brynley Myers, these girls brought him so much joy! He is also survived by his sister Kimberly Smith, and brothers, Timothy, Jerry and Robert of Columbus KS. He also cherished many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, too numerous to mention by name. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Delmont) Kropp. He would have wanted to be remembered and celebrated in the hearts of those who knew him.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Friday, February 13th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Thunderbirds Grille, 2920 SE Croco Rd, Topeka, KS.
