Larry Wayne Hurst (age 68), Delavan, passed away on September 18, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. Larry was born on October 23, 1956, to James (Calvin) and Mary Betty Hurst in Rison, Arkansas. He was a 1975 graduate of Rison High School. Larry was employed in his younger years with the Coca-Cola Company and then began a long career starting on May 16, 1979, as a railroader. He worked out of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Dalhart, Texas and spent many years working out of Herington, Kansas until he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad on November 1, 2016. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers #261.
Larry enjoyed watching football, listening to music and was a good dancer in his younger years. He especially enjoyed fishing & hunting and being an outdoorsman. Larry was also an amazing cook and was known to grow an excellent garden when he was in better health and would "can preserve" and freeze his produce and share with friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two sons Cody Hurst and Ryan Hurst, brother Terry Hurst and family. His family has chosen cremation and Larry's ashes will be spread in the woods where he enjoyed spending time hunting.
A come and go gathering will be held at The Spot, in Herington, Ks. for Larry's friends and colleagues to reminisce and share stories on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
