Larry "Pete" Crocker passed away on April 5, 2018 after a short illness. He was born on May 5, 1936 in Paola, Kansas, to William and Roxie Alcorn Crocker. Pete served in the Marines and was self-employed at Crocker's Auto since 1975 in Topeka. He Married Velda Jantz September 18, 1958. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include his wife Velda Crocker, a son Ed Crocker, a daughter Yvonne Carreno and two grandchildren: Bill and Vicky. A memorial is planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete's name can be made online to the Marine Corps Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Pete was proud to have served in the Marines. The Marine Corps mantra Semper Fe (always Faithful) was his motto and the way he lived his life. While in the Marines Pete attended several schools for auto mechanics. After the Marines he worked as an auto mechanic at several different locations before he bought his own shop in 1975 appropriately called Crocker's Auto where Pete and his son Ed worked side by side. Crocker's Auto was more than a job for Pete. He had a passion for mechanics and enjoyed interacting with his customers. In most cases his customers became life long friends. There are many examples where Pete towed or jumped a car at no cost to the customer. Helping other people was part of his upbringing. Pete reluctantly retired when he turned 79 years old. Pete was a car enthusiast and restored automobiles throughout his life. He liked Ford Mustangs and restores several different years of Mustangs. He enjoyed taking his cars to car shows and interacting with the public and fellow car enthusiast. He won many awards for his cars and trucks. He took great pride in his work. Pete loved being with family always opening up his home for family reunions. His love, companionship and guidance will be greatly missed by all.
