Larry Lee Cobler

Larry Lee Cobler, 80,passedat Midland Hospice on Dec. 27, 2014. Larry was born April 30, 1934 to Walter Cobler and Barbara (Wutherick) Cobler.

Larry graduated from Topeka High School in 1953 and attended Washburn University to play football. Under Coach Dick Godlove, Washburn won the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a record of 7-1. Larry left college early to join the U.S. Army and spent 16 months overseas fighting for America's freedom in the Korean War. After returning to civilian life, Larry worked mainly for the local Carpenter's Union and would eventually open his own business mainly installing drop-style ceilings and operated a number of rental properties. Due to the rigors of construction life, Larry opted to take a custodial position for USD 345 at Seaman High School and finally retired at Logan Junior High School. A post-death Facebook tribute proved many of the students at Logan were very fond of Larry and had good memories of him.

Larry had 11 siblings: Clifford Cobler (deceased), William Cobler (deceased), Clyde Cobler (deceased), Walter Cobler (Nancy) of Sonoita, AZ, Robert Cobler (Donna) of Topeka, James Cobler (Norma) of Topeka, Fred Rogers (Norma) of Topeka, Nelli Callicoat (deceased), Mary Warner of Topeka, Opal Jones (deceased), Jerry Rogers (deceased). There were also numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry married Barbara Hummer in 1958 and later divorced. He married Connie Hickey Andrews in 1969. She survives. Larry had two step children: Larry R. Andrews (deceased), Gere Andrews Shaw (Bobby) of Topeka. Larry is survived by seven step grand children: Jeremy Fitzgerald (Jenny), Adriene Andrews, Amy Andrews, Cody Roberts, Clayton Roberts, Bobby Shaw, all of Topeka, and Tina Roberts Alonso of Oklahoma City, OK, and 10 step great grand children.

At Larry's request, there will be no funeral services. Contributions in memory of Larry can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project. A celebration of Larry's life is planned after the 1st of the year with the date, place and time to be announced.
