Kay Marie Sanders

May 2, 1940 — February 8, 2024

Kay Marie Sanders, 83, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024. She was born on May 2, 1940, to R.W. (Dick) and Florence Moore, in Topek. Her gentle spirit and unwavering kindness profoundly touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kay Marie's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of her hometown, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Lee Sanders. The two were united in marriage on August 19, 1960, and celebrated 60 years of marriage. They spent most of their life on Kay Marie's family homestead. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Ronni (Tim) Sales and Leeta Sanders (Rodney Mogge), who in turn filled Kay Marie and Ron's life with the joy of three grandchildren, Scott (Kelsey) Rinehart, Ryan (Hannah Wheat) Rinehart, and Sydney Sales, the delight of two great-grandchildren, Navy and Mav, a loving Son- in-Law Mike Rinehart and a forever Brother-in-Law Lenny (Sandi) Sanders and their family in Indiana.

A woman of intellect and grace, Kay Marie graduated from Washburn Rural High School, then pursued her passion for mathematics at Washburn University for two years, during which time she became a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Her academic pursuits laid the foundation for a remarkable career that began with Capital Federal, and Mr. Block in the '60s and eventually led to the establishment of her own business, Sanders Income Tax Service. For over 40 years, she skillfully managed her business from her home, with her daughter Leeta by her side for more than two decades.

Prior to preparing income taxes, she taught piano lessons from home or traveled to student's homes, she volunteered at school and she led Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girl Troops, teaching young girls how to camp and survive and be self-sufficient. Kay Marie also owned and operated The Kuntry Kiln, a ceramic shop in her basement. She became a beloved mentor to many, teaching ceramic lessons and sharing her artistic creations with the community at craft sales and local flower shops, including Dillons. She also helped 4-H Members with their projects in Arts and Crafts.

After Ron retired, the couple shared their love for travel. Together, they explored various State Fairs and capitals, immersing themselves in the local cultures and festivities, often for weeks at a time. Maybe searching for a Neil Diamond Concert on their way. Their adventurous spirit also led them to their grandchildren's sports events, whether in town or on the road, always showing their support and love.

Preceded in death by her parents, R.W. (Dick) and Florence Moore, her brother, Billy Moore, and her beloved husband Ron Sanders (09-26-2020). She was blessed to be survived by her daughters, grandchildren and so many of her close loved ones.
