On March 23rd, Kathy Miller Perney, aged 71, passed away peacefully in her home in Topeka, the same city where she was born on January 24, 1953.
She was a beloved mother to her two daughters, Monica Perney and Laura Gutshall, residing in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania respectively, and a cherished mother-in-law to Eric Branch and Bryan Gutshall. Kathy's life was enriched by her three grandchildren, Brenna, Cameron, and Callie. She leaves behind numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Alberta Miller, and her brothers Ron Miller, Darrell Miller, and Percy Powell.
Kathy was a figure of affection and respect in her community. Even those not related to her affectionately referred to her as Aunt Kathy.
Her wisdom and empathy made her a magnet for those seeking advice or a listening ear.
Her love for her daughters and grandchildren was boundless, and she reveled in their achievements. Kathy made it a priority to visit them, cherishing the moments spent in their company.
A champion of acceptance, equality, and opportunity, Kathy actively supported various nonprofit organizations. Her creativity shone through her donated handcrafted bead and wire art.
Her unique style and individuality were evident in her living spaces. A self-reliant woman, entrepreneur, and proud college graduate, Kathy embraced challenges. She spent a significant part of her life in Colorado, drawn to the majesty of the mountains.
Kathy treasured nature, its birds, its plants, and the thrill of a rugged hiking trail.
