Kathrine Jane Dewalt

Kathrine Jane DeWalt, 79, died February 27, 2015. She was born August 27th, 1935 in Horton, KS to Anna Ruth (Green) Christensen and Theodore James Christensen.

Kay grew up in Netawaka, KS and attended Netawaka Elementary and Sr. High school. Kay took part in many activities, clubs and sports in high school. Kay was her basketball team's leading scorer in 1952-53 with a 30 point average, leading her team to an undefeated season. Kay attended Netawaka Methodist church throughout her youth.

Upon graduation, Kay attended business school and made Topeka her home. She began her career at Santa Fe and worked her way up to administrative manager and retired after 27 years of service. Upon retirement, she worked part-time at KEPCO and for the Kansas Legislator.

Kay was married and divorced from Jim DeWalt (deceased). Kay is survived by her daughter Karla (Kevin) Harrison and son Scott (Barb) DeWalt. Six grandchildren: Gregory (Tanya) Martin, Bartlesville, OK; Steven (Shiori) Martin, Okinawa, Japan; Michael DeWalt, Topeka; Emily DeWalt, Topeka; Byron Harrison, Overland Park, KS; and Robert Harrison, Kansas City, MO. She also has two great-grandchildren whom she adored, Grant and Amelia Martin.

Kay was an extensive traveler of the United States and traveled a great deal with her sister, Grace Wood (survives). Kay loved the beauty of Alaska and traveled there six times. Crocheting afghans was Kay's artwork. She crocheted avidly for forty plus years for herself and all family members.

KU Basketball and the Kansas City Royals were her passion. She could name all the players, their positions, and stats. The family asks when attending the memorial service please wear the colors or something representing KU athletics or Royals baseball.

A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 7, 2015 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd., Entrance 4, Topeka, KS.
