Joseph O “Joey” Ehalt Jr

January 8, 1984 — January 11, 2016

Joseph O "Joey" Ehalt Jr, 32 of Topeka passed away Monday January 11, 2016, at his home.

He was born January 8, 1984, in Topeka KS, the son of Joseph O and Carol (Wollen) Ehalt Sr. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School and Washburn Tech.

Joe worked as an auto mechanic for Expert Tire until 2008 when a motorcycle accident changed the course of his life. After a long recovery he attended Washburn University, volunteered with the Bonner Project, and most recently tutored math for Sylvan Learning Center. He has enriched the lives of everyone who crossed his path with his humor, red-neck wisdom and his knowledge of all things mechanical.

Joe loved fishing in his parent's pond, four-wheeling in his jeep "Lucky Lucy", and creating daily adventures with his two daughters, Holley and Brooke. He had a zest for life and wasn't afraid to take on an adventure.

Survivors include his parents, daughters, and sisters: Jean(Darren) Kiekel of League City TX, Pat(Allen) Temple of Wichita KS, Jackie(John) Crader of Berryton KS, Pam(Glen) Maughmer of Basehor KS, Jan McGrath and Penny Ehalt of Topeka KS, 19 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a rosary in his honor February 4, 2016, at 6:00 pm at St. Matthews Catholic Church 2700 SE Virginia, Topeka. The family will receive family and friends following the Rosary.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm February 5, 2016, at the Church with burial following at Lynn Creek Cemetery, Berryton, weather permitting.

In lieu of flowers the family is setting up a Memorial fund which, in part, will establish a scholarship fund for his daughters, Holley and Brooke. Donations can be sent to Carol Ehalt at 2420 SE 69th, Berryton Ks, 66409.
