John Edward Thompson, a man of great intellect and warm spirit, passed away on July 6, 2023, at the age of 44 in Scranton, Kansas. Born on May 1, 1979, in Topeka, Kansas, John lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a profound dedication to his family, friends, and work.

John was the beloved husband to his wife of 24 years, Shellanne, a devoted father to their son Jake and the son of Susan and Douglas Thompson. His love extended beyond his immediate family to his sister Cassandra Robertson and family, brother Mike Thompson and family, and niece Bailee Morgan and family. He also had a close bond with his extended family Thomas and Christina Flyntz, Josh Flyntz and family, and Andrew Piper and family. His love and care for his family were evident in his actions and words, making him a pillar of strength and support for all.

Raised in Carbondale, John graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 1997. He went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Allen County Community College before obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Baker University. His love for learning was infectious, inspiring those around him to strive for more.

John's professional dedication was equally impressive. For 23 years, he was a loyal and hardworking employee at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka. His colleagues admired his unwavering commitment to his work, his devotion to his team, and his innovative ideas and solutions were a testament to his brilliance.

Outside of work, John had a deeply rooted love for nature and outdoor activities. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his love for animals was evident in the care he provided for his pets. He also enjoyed working on the family farm, a place that brought him immense joy and peace. He had a keen sense of adventure and loved traveling, but his favorite moments were those spent with his family. His home was always filled with laughter, good food, and endless stories, making it a haven for all who visited.

John's life was marked by his quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering love for those around him. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Despite the pain of his loss, we take comfort in knowing that John lived a full and meaningful life, touching the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and love.

John Edward Thompson was a man of great character, wisdom, and heart. His life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and hard work. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 14th at Willows Bend Venue located at 2241 E 141st St., Carbondale, KS 66414. This is located on East Lake just east of Carbondale where John grew up fishing. Please be prepared to share a fond or humorous memory of John. The celebration will begin at 1:00 pm.
