John Dwayne Lawyer Jr, 70, died Sunday June 12, 2022, at Midland Hospice House with his family by his side.
John was born August 6, 1951, in Concordia, KS to John and Bonnie Lawyer Sr. John graduated from Concordia High School and obtained his bachelor's degree from Washburn University.
John married Diana Chaput on January 24, 1970, in Concordia, KS. They had three children together. Diana passed away on July 11, 1981. Not everyone is lucky enough to find love once but in John's case he found it twice. John married Irene Whitt on May 17, 1985, in Cole Camp, MO.
John worked as a police officer for the Sedalia, MO police department before moving to Topeka, KS to become a youth corrections officer at the Topeka Youth Correctional Facility. Later John started a landscaping and snow removal business, often being gone from home for 3-4 days at a time to make sure his clients parking lots were clean. He was a very hard worker.
John was very active in his church, South Knollwood Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher, craftsman building props for vacation bible school and assisting on church camp trips to Tennessee.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Diana and a son Michael "Squeakem's" Lawyer. John is survived by his wife Irene of the home; sons David Lawyer and Danny Prall; daughters Charity (Bryan) Hester and Shirley (Ronald) Bouton; grandchildren Mariah (Michael) Baldridge, Katelyn Taylor, Noah Brown, Lee Hammond, Evan (Trisha) Hammond, Kayla, Marissa, Clayton, and Alexis Prall; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters Vicky (Phil) Viner and Christy Osborn; several nieces and nephews and all his Sunday school children.
Visitation will be Thursday June 23, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 pm at South Knollwood Baptist Church, 1813 SW 29th St. Funeral service will be held at South Knollwood Baptist Church at 11:30 am on Friday June 24, 2022. Interment will be at a later date.
