Joan Evelyn Krause Denny
Joan Denny (81) of Topeka passed away at St. Francis Hospital on August 1, 2022. She was born on August 26, 1941, in Clinton, Missouri to Elmer Krause and Sylvia Riffle. She married Jerry Denny on March 22, 1981, in Charleston, South Carolina. She attended Sunnydale Adventist Academy and graduated from Union College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Later she got her Masters in Midwifery from Columbia University in New York City in 1974. She devoted her time to raising their three children and delivering many babies over the years at Topeka Birth and Women's Center. Joan was an active member of the Topeka SDA Church. Joan enjoyed volunteering with The Health Department. In addition, she took pleasure in being involved in the community and helping with state elections. One of her favorite jobs over the years was teaching at Washburn University in the Nursing Department for 25 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, her husband who was the love of her life, and their two daughters and son as well as her five grandchildren Hunter, Sterling, Dylan, Monet, and Steele of whom she was inordinately proud. She and Jerry delighted in sharing their anniversaries on trips together. Some of the countries they visited were New Zealand, China, and Israel. However, her most treasured visits were to see her grandchildren in CO, TX, and her fur baby Delilah in KC. Jerry and Joan celebrated forty-one years together. Recently she was thrilled to attend her granddaughter's Monet high school graduation. She is survived by two daughters, Janelle (Rob) Williams of Keene, Texas, Jennifer (Frank) Becvar of Longmont, Colorado, and a son, Justin Denny of Shawnee, Kansas. Also surviving is her brother and sister-in-law, Bob (Vonda) Krause of Berrien Springs, Michigan and sister and brother-in-law, Juanita (Dave) Smith, of Bryant, Alabama, brother-in-law Roger Mikesell of Keene, Texas, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Proceeded in death by sister Lois Mikesell. She loved her Lord and delighted in the wonders of His creation. She was happy with the simplest of pleasures, was a generous friend to all, and always possessed a joyful and grateful countenance. Joan will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Topeka Seventh-day Adventist Church.
