Jerry L. Miller

January 18, 1937 — August 21, 2025

Jerry L. Miller passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Topeka, KS, after a battle with head and neck cancer.

Jerry was born January 18, 1937 in Reserve, KS. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and friendliness that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jerry is survived by his wife, Ruth; his son, Grant Miller and daughter-in-law, Linda Parman (Charlottesville,VA); and his grandson, Luke Miller (Washington DC). He is preceded in death by his parents, JW (Dick) Miller and Marcile Miller, as well as his sister, Marlene Watts.

Jerry graduated from Hiawatha High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Emporia State. He taught school at Crane Junior High in Topeka for five years. Jerry then transitioned to the corporate world, where he spent 33 years with Goodyear Tire at the Topeka Plant. After retiring from Goodyear he spent several years working at Clark Chevrolet in Holton.

An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering on KU sports and K-State football, and as a season ticket holder, he never missed a Washburn football game. He also enjoyed complaining about the Chiefs and Royals. Jerry loved to work in his yard and keep his vehicles clean. He loved a good steak, a vodka tonic served in a tall glass, and the simple pleasure of a cold can on a hot day.

Jerry's family would like to thank his care team at Brewster Place in Topeka for the fantastic care and comfort they provided for him in his final days. They would also like to thank the care team at Phoenix Hospice for treating him like family and making sure he was comfortable and very well taken care of.

The family would also like to acknowledge dear friends John Taber and Robert Exon for always being there for him with a phone call or a visit.

Per Jerry's wishes, no service is planned. Jerry will have his ashes scattered at a later date.
