Janice A. Wilson

March 23, 1937 — August 19, 2016

Janice A. Wilson, 79, of Topeka, KS, passed peacefully at Midland Care Hospice House on Friday, August 19, 2016 after her journey with Alzheimer's Disease.

Janice was born March 23, 1937, in Spearville, KS, the daughter of Edward A. and Edna M. (Heiland) Fredelake. Janice was raised on the family farm near Spearville KS. She attended and graduated from the Spearville schools, class of 1955. Janice attended St Mary of the Plains College in Dodge City and then attended Sisters of St Joseph of Wichita School of Nursing in Wichita, KS, receiving her Registered Nurse license in 1958. In 1976, she earned the designation of CNPA by completing the Nurse Clinician program at Wichita State University. Janice met her husband, Gerald (Jerry) W. Wilson in Wichita while attending the Wichita School of Nursing. The two were married December 6, 1958 at the McConnell Air Force Base Chapel. The two lived in Wichita and settled in Dodge City, KS, where they raised their children. She was a loving wife and caring mother and grandmother. She wanted the best for her children and provided the guidance and support they needed to be successful adults. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she enjoyed spending time with each one of them.

Jan worked at the Dodge City Medical Center for many years and retired in 1991. During her nursing career she established the Intensive Care Unit at Trinity Hospital with help from her colleagues, served as director of nursing, worked at the Spearville Hospital, Cancer Center of Kansas, and as a home care hospice nurse.

She touched so many lives helping young mothers with their sick babies and children. She always seemed to know just what to do with a child whether it was sick or not. She worked side by side with Dr R. Dale Boles and they made quite a team for many years.

Jan was always on the go, always serving others through volunteer activities. She and Jerry were graduates of the Fort Hays State University Senior Companion Program. Through this program they provided companion services to 25 veterans who were their neighbors at the Kansas Soldiers Homes at Fort Dodge, KS. Running errands, visiting the hospital, sewing on buttons, reading, going for rides, most importantly they listened.

She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held several offices including department chairman, vice president and president and was a member of the 8-40 Club.

Survivors include: husband of the home, daughter Cathy (Kent) Holmes, Topeka, KS, sons, Steve (Cindy) Wilson, Lincoln, NE, Richard Wilson, Topeka, KS, Mike (Gina) Wilson Dodge City, KS.
