James Lee Scott

James Lee Scott, 72, of Overland Park, passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patty. Their relationship modeled love, loyalty, and faith.

Known as "Papaw" to his 6 children – Tamara, Shawna, Christy, Carrie, Chris, and Jeff (who greeted Papaw in heaven with a big smile) and 13 grandkids, he relished time spent with family and friends: cooking, playing games, and weekend getaways at Hilltop in his beloved Flint Hills.

A graduate in agricultural studies from the University of Illinois, his livelihood varied over the years, but frequently reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and involved the cattle business. Friendly and popular, he rarely traveled in the mid-west without running into old friends or making new ones. His humor, patriotism, and big heart will endure.

Visitation will befrom 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13at the Legacy Christian Church in Overland Park, with the service followingon Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Christian Church or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
