James Lee Johnson, 44, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on May 15, 2026. Born on June 30, 1981, in Topeka, Kansas. James spent his life in the community he proudly called home. He was a devoted son, father , brother , uncle and loyal friend. Someone’s whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him.

James was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his career as a car detailer and welder. He took pride in every job he did and believed in doing things the right way. Whether he was restoring a vehicle to perfection or working long hours welding, James gave his all and earned the respect of coworkers, customers, and friends alike. James brought joy and laughter to everyone around them and told them they needed to do their “ due diligence” and do what’s right! He was known for giving everyone a nickname they would’ve never thought about and if he gave you a name it was written and stone he wasn’t going to call you anything else!

He had a natural talent for working with his hands and an eye for detail that made him stand out in his trade.

Outside of work, James truly came alive through the things he loved most cars and fishing. He had a deep passion for automobiles and enjoyed spending countless hours working on vehicles, talking cars with friends, and admiring anything with an engine and wheels. To those who knew him best, cars were more than just a hobby for James, they were part of his personality and one of the many ways he connected with people.

Fishing brought James peace and happiness. Whether sitting quietly by the water at sunrise or spending the day outdoors with friends and family, those moments meant the world to him. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found joy in the calmness and freedom that fishing provided.

James will be remembered for his caring heart, his quiet strength, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, and his sense of humor could brighten even the hardest days. Though he faced life’s challenges like anyone else, he continued forward with determination, resilience, and love for the people closest to him.

His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him. Family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with James the conversations in the garage, the fishing trips, the laughter, and the countless moments that now mean even more. While he may no longer walk beside them, his spirit and memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched.

James was a true family man, He is survived by his mother Lynnette Kidd , his children Samaris Humble and Cameron Johnson, his grandson Kohen Humble and his sister Tiffany Kidd and her children DeAundre Luarks-Kidd , Jayshawn Kidd , Tre Kidd, Khairi Kidd.

James Lee Johnson will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
