James (Jim) Milton Kring, Jr.

May 19, 1943 — July 3, 2023

James (Jim) Milton Kring Jr., passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, at the age of 80 years old in Topeka, Kansas. Jim was a man of intelligence, courage, and kindness, who left a profound impact on everyone he encountered.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Lorene (Bryant) Kring, and his son-in-law Mike Madden. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Donna (Crumet) Kring, his cherished daughter, Theresa (Kring) Madden, and his loving son, Scott and his wife Staci (Nicholson) Kring. He was a proud grandfather to Levi and his wife Kelsey (Lind) Madden, Luke and his wife Baylie (Bevers) Madden, Skyler Kring, and Spencer Kring. He was proud to be a first-time great grandfather to Nora Madden. Jim's family extended to many siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will miss his wisdom and warmth.

Jim was a proud alumnus of the University of Kansas, where he studied engineering. His passion for his field was evident in his illustrious career as a Professional Structural Engineer. He served rural water districts across the Midwest, and his talent for design was showcased in the miles of highway and bridges he designed for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Jim's influence extended to the national level as an active Fellow of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jim had a passion for life that was infectious. He was an avid hunter, exploring the plains of Kansas, the woods and tundra of Canada, and the hill country of Texas. His curiosity extended to the past as well, as he pursued genealogy and traced his family history back more than 10 generations. His grandsons were the apple of his eye. He loved spending time with them and supporting their passions. Jim was also a keen investor, always keeping an eye on the markets and trends.

Jim's legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished, his stories will be retold, and his love will be felt forever. Even though he is no longer with us, his spirit continues to live on in the lives he touched. Rest in peace Jim, your life was a journey well-traveled and a story well-told.
