Jack Dean Newell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, in his hometown of Topeka, KS, at the age of 93. Born on July 11, 1931, to Roy and Stella Newell, Jack was a lifelong resident of Topeka and a beacon of love and selflessness to all who knew him.
Jack graduated from Seaman High School in 1949, and soon after, served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He then dedicated 38 years of service as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Office. His commitment to the community extended to his 22 years as a school bus driver for the Seaman school district, where he touched the lives of many students and parents with his gentle nature.
Jack's love for Jesus was at the heart of his life. He embodied the spirit of his faith through his loving and selfless actions, leaving a legacy of kindness and gratitude that will be remembered by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Stella Newell, and his sisters, Catherine Herman (Tony) and Shirley Logan (Dale). Jack's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Newell, his children, Sherill Maddox and Larry Newell (Judi), his grandchildren, Bonnie Bustos (Omar) of Ft. Worth, TX, and Claire Ferko (Mackenzie) of San Jose, CA, and his great-grandchildren, Lionel Bustos and Jackson Ferko.
Jack's life was a testament to the power of the love of Jesus and the impact one person can have on the world around them. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 11, 2024, at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 SW Mulvane Street, Topeka, KS 66604.
Private burial of his urn will take place at a later date at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
