Jack L. Cox

May 29, 1934 — December 5, 2014

Jack L. (Gander) Cox, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at his home in Topeka, KS.

Jack was born May 29, 1934 in Omaha, NE to Arthur and Augusta Cox, both preceded him in death.

He completed high school in Omaha and immediately went on to join the Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA.

Jack was married to his childhood sweetheart, Sandra (Sandy/Goose) Cox for 62 years. She survives.

Jack worked as a warehouse manager for GE Supply in Omaha for 30 years before retiring. He then moved with Sandy to Topeka in 2000. He was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and loved watching games with his whole family. He loved helping at the family's restaurant, Banjo's Café, in Pauline, KS. Everyone he met became an immediate friend and he was always busy helping others, working in the yard or babysitting his great-grandchildren, whom he adored. Known by everyone as "Gander", he always had jokes to tell, pranks to pull and a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his brother, Art (Shirley) Cox, Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Cox & sister, Phyllis Davis.

He was the proud father of his 4 children: Terri (Tom) Martin, Topeka, KS, Scott (Sharyel) Cox, Omaha, NE, Lori (Russ) Running, Omaha, NE and Kelli (Steve) Lucas, Omaha, NE.

Jack's greatest joy, however, were his 8 grandchildren and their spouses, 9 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Rosie. Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will take place at Banjo's Café, Pauline, KS on Saturday, December 6th at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to The Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st. St. Topeka, KS 66604.
