Irene Marie Rice

September 28, 1951 — March 5, 2024

Irene "Renee" Marie Rice, 72 of Topeka, fell asleep in death during the evening of March 5th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Renee was born on September 28, 1951, in Topeka to Louis V Chavez and Frances Mullinix. Survivors include Renee's son, Prentiss J Rice Jr and his wife, Manda of Topeka and brother, Walter Mullinix Jr and his wife Reba and many nieces and nephews. Renee has been proceeded in death by her parents and her sister, Monica Hernandez. Renee graduated from Topeka High School in 1969 and she was employed as a secretary at the Topeka State Hospital. Renee developed many friendships over the years while she worked at the Topeka State Hospital and other agencies for the State of Kansas. She worked for the State of Kansas until she had to take a medical disability.

Renee married Prentiss "Joe" Rice Sr on January 6th, 1974, In Topeka. Joe proceeded Renee in death. Anyone who knew Renee and Joe knew they had their fair share of health problems. They both had been disabled for many years. Despite that fact they loved each other dearly. Renee was a beautiful, self-sacrificing woman. Renee loved to crochet and knit and sew. Many of her friends still have the gifts she crocheted for them over the years. As long as her health allowed, she loved giving to her friends.

Renee was a member of the Central Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Renee was baptized along with her husband, Joe on December 29th, 1974. Renee took seriously the commission that Christ Jesus gave his followers to preach about God's Kingdom. She felt God's Kingdom is our only hope moving forward. Renee's faith allowed her to be a faithful wife, a caring mother, and a loving sister to many.

Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on April 6th, 2024, at 3 pm. Flowers may be sent to the Kingdom Hall on Croco Road after 2 pm on the day of the service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Central Congregation, 2701 SE Croco Road. Zoom services will also be available. Zoom meeting ID is 656 327 9045. The password is 972047.
