Herb Wyrick, 73, died on March 25th, 2017. He was born in Leavenworth on March 3, 1944, to Herbert and Loretta (Meyers) Wyrick. He graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, St Benedict's College (Benedictine) in Atchison, and Emporia State Teachers College (ESU). He married Sarah Brown on June 8, 1968. He is survived by his wife, daughters Karyn Moore (Ryan) of Thornton, CO and Loretta Severin (Jeff) of Lawrence; and grandchildren Colin and Alec Moore and Ellorie Severin. He taught language arts at Emporia Middle School for 35 years, then public speaking at Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College for 13 more years. He was a loyal member of Kiwanis Club of Emporia and a Friday afternoon beer group. Cremation has taken place, with inurnment in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends are invited to celebrate Herb's life at the Emporia American Legion, 2921 W 12th on April 9 at 3:00.
Herb was a founding member of Emporia Community Theatre, and entertained Emporians with his acting skills for many years. His love of the craft prompted him to establish a scholarship at ESU: the Herb Wyrick – Elwood P. Dowd Actors' Scholarship. Memorial contributions can be made to the ESU Foundation, 1500 Highland St., Emporia, KS, 66801 and designated to the Elwood P. Dowd Actors' Scholarship.
