Harold Eugene Russell

Harold Russell, 89, of Topeka, passed away on February 5, 2023.

Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Russell; daughter and son-in-law Dixie and Joe Butin; grandson Jesse Butin; granddaughter Montana (Bryan) Hantes and great-grandsons Sam and Alex; sister Dorothy Burkhardt; brothers-in-law Allen and Clifford (Harrietta) Reynolds; sisters-in-law Janet and Carol Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews who adored "Uncle Harold."

Harold was predeceased by his parents, William and Florence, his sister Bonnie Thornton; brothers William and Eldon, and Eldon's wife, Janice.

A veteran of the Korean War, Harold served honorably in the US Marine Corps, stationed at Mt. Fujiyama, Japan. Harold and Joan (Reynolds) were married Oct.11, 1957 in Warrenton, MO. Harold worked at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis until moving to Topeka in 1961 where he began his own business. He was a 60+ year member of the First United Methodist Church.

Harold lived life fully and pursued many interests including flying his own airplanes, cross-country motorcycle trips with his buddies, boating and travel. He will be greatly missed.

Harold was cremated, as per his request. A family graveside memorial service will be held at McPherson Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church and the Topeka Rescue Mission.
