Gregory James Capoun

October 25, 1956 — November 17, 2014

Gregory James Capoun, age 58 of Alma, Kansas passed away November 17, 2014 after a brief illness. Gregory was born October 25, 1956, the son of Richard and Geneva Haller Capoun. Gregory lived the majority of his life in Wabaunsee County Kansas, spending the last 12 years on Nehring Branch. He graduated from Alma High School in 1974 and was a Journeyman Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his son Ben (Amber) Capoun, granddaughters Haleigh and Colbie, brothers Craig (Linda), Glen (Amy), Joe (Tracy), numerous nieces and nephews and his life partner and companion, Rhonda Nehring.

Gregory's sense of humor, intelligence and wit made an impact on most everyone who met him. He said what everyone else was thinking. You might not agree with him, but it was the truth according to him and damn the political correctness. Greg's infamy for story telling will be missed as he could tell stories till you were laughing so hard you cried. The stories might embarrass you but he would then turn around and share an equally embarrassing story about himself. Friends and relationships took precedence over what money and material things could provide. This became very apparent to the family over the last week as friends came by to say their last goodbye and related how Gregory was their best friend or close confidant.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 21 between 5 and 7 PM at Peace Church at 4th and Grand, Alma and funeral service on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Peace Church. Per his request his ashes will be scattered on Mount Nehring with a Celebration of life to be held at the CX ranch following.

Gregory's passions included fishing, gardening, arrowhead hunting, visiting with friends and family, and protecting our precious water resources here in Wabaunsee County. He could never understand how the state of Kansas could stop gravel removal from Mill Creek to save a minnow yet allow irrigators to pump it nearly dry. Therefore in lieu of flowers, the family has established the Gregory Capoun Mill Creek Watershed Memorial Fund dedicated to the preservation of Mill Creek and its tributaries. Donations can be sent in care of Bank of the Flint Hills, PO Box 7, Alma, KS 66401.
