Gerald A. Irving, 77, of Topeka, KS departed this world on Sunday, October 30, 2022. He was born December 23, 1944, in New Rochelle, NY the son of Charles and Dorothy (Irving) Griffin.
Gerald's family moved to Norfolk, VA where he grew up. He graduated from Booker T. High School and was drafted into the US Army. He was a Paratrooper serving three consecutive terms and was deployed twice during the Vietnam War. Upon being honorably discharged he moved to Junction City, KS and was hired on with the US Post Office and later moved to Topeka.
Gerald will be remembered as a kindhearted, gentle soul that was an excellent trumpet player.
He is survived by his wife of 36 ½ years, Jean (Hastings) Irving. Gerald leaves to cherish his memory from a previous marriage, a son, Gerald A. Irving, Jr, three daughters, Montoya Irving, Ramona (Kenny) Harris, and Stephanie Ougntunde. Other survivors include two brothers, Eddie Griffin and Quince Griffin both of Chesapeake, VA, three sisters, Elvah Taylor of Roanoke, VA, Zita Smith of Chesapeake, VA and Carla Norville of Norfolk, VA. Four grandchildren and a host of extended relatives and friends also survive.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 12, 2022, at El Shaddai Ministries (First Chapel), 920 SE Sherman Avenue, Topeka. Military Honors will be conducted by the US Army Funeral Detail assisted by the American Legion Post #421.
