Genevieve Maxine (Christian, Schmidt) Tebben, 87, Topeka, passed away May 8th, 2019. She was born December 20th, 1931, in Eskridge, KS, the daughter of Ralph W. Christian and Mima M. Buck Christian. She lived in Topeka, KS, most of her life, having graduated from Seaman High School in 1949. She married Delmar J. Schmidt; together they had five children. They later divorced. Delmar predeceased her. She married Alfred H. Tebben, Jr., who predeceased her in 2007. Genevieve worked at Merchants National Bank, Capital City Bank and Highland Park State Bank in customer service; Zercher Photo, imprinting Christmas cards and wedding napkins, and later worked for the Kansas State Senate, retiring in 2007.
Genevieve was a loving wife, mother and dedicated homemaker, devoting her life to the happiness of her family, being ever-present at her children's and grandchildren's sports, dance, and academic activities, creating holiday family celebration meals with her superb baking and cooking talent, flower gardening, sewing, antique restoration, the beauty related to her Irish heritage, KU men's basketball, and KC Royals baseball.
Genny is survived by two siblings, Eloise Foga, and Wendell Christian, of Topeka; a sister, Dorthy Figgs, predeceased her; four sons, Richard Schmidt of Topeka, Kansas; Stephen Schmidt and wife Zsuzsanna Gyorky of Silver Spring, Maryland; William Schmidt and wife Janet of Overland Park, Kansas; Michael Schmidt and wife Deborah of Overland Park, Kansas; a daughter, Karen Schmidt of Charlottesville, Virginia; five grandchildren, Brian McCollam and wife Karen Leve, Philip Schmidt and wife Christen Whitehouse, Christopher McCollam, Stephanie Schmidt Hein, and Timothy Schmidt; and six great-grandchildren, Jackson Hein, Sadie Hein, and Silas Hein, Delphine Schmidt, Remy Schmidt, and Yann Schmidt; many nieces and nephews, and especially her niece, Nancy Lynne Foga, who cared for Genevieve in the home during the last ten weeks of her life.

Memorial contributions can be made to Boys Town, American Lung Association, and Corita's Corner sandwich ministry, part of Catholic Charities of Topeka. A private celebration of her life is being planned.
