Gary Allen Hobbs

April 20, 1978 — July 10, 2025

Gary Allen Hobbs, lovingly known as "Hobbs," passed away on July 10, 2025, at the age of 47, surrounded by his family. Born in Ottawa, Kansas, on April 20, 1978, to Gary O. Hobbs and Catherine A. (Rybolt) Hobbs, Gary lived a life full of heart, humor, and devotion to those he loved.

He graduated from Hutchinson High School and went on to attend Washburn University. Over the years, Gary made his mark working at Dillons in Hutchinson and Topeka, but he was perhaps best known in Topeka for his time behind the bar and DJ booth at Spanky's, Mac Daddy's, and Sharkey's. His personality lit up every room, and his love for music and people left lasting memories with many. Later, he transitioned to work at AT&T.

Gary's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his partner, Tara Sage; daughters Ashlynn Hobbs of Bunker Hill and Kassidy Hobbs of Russell; and stepsons Alex Sage and Zach Sage of Topeka. He was a proud, devoted and loving grandfather to Avarie Moresco and Braylee Hobbs. He is also survived by his father, Gary O. Hobbs of Branson, Missouri; his sister, Stacey (Hobbs) Sipe and her husband Michael; nieces Tessa and Peyton Sipe of Louisville, Kentucky; and stepbrother Bryan McNees of Lawrence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine A. Hobbs; stepmother Patti Hobbs; and his grandparents.

Gary lived his life fully and freely. He cherished time with his girls and Tara, whether at home, at the lake, or simply enjoying life with friends and family. He had a passion for grilling and competing in smoking competitions, always bringing people together through good food and great company.

In honor of Hobbs' wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.

Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
