Garold Kent Sandell

December 2, 1951 — September 8, 2025

Garold Kent Sandell, known affectionately as Gary to his friends and family, passed away on September 8, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 73. Born on December 2, 1951, in Republic, Kansas, Gary was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, creative spirit, and handy skills.

Gary grew up in the heart of Kansas, where he was deeply loved by his parents, the late Mae and Rex Sandell. He was a cherished brother to Richard and Steve Sandell. Gary's educational journey was marked by his dedication and passion for learning, as he earned an Associate's Degree from Cloud County Community College in 1971, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Business from Fort Hays State University in 1973, and later, a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources from Friends University in 1994.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as drawing, which allowed him to express his innermost thoughts and feelings. Gary's garden was a testament to his patience and care, as he cultivated not just plants, but also the bonds with those around him. His love for gambling was known to many, as he enjoyed the thrill and camaraderie found in the game.

Gary's heart was full when it came to his family. He was a devoted father to Andrew Sandell and Alexa Latta, and a loving stepfather to Andy Adams, Frank Kent, and Yvonne Bowman-Posch. His presence in their lives was a source of strength and inspiration. Gary's late wife, Ilene Donnelly-Sandell, shared many beautiful years with him, and together they created a legacy of love that continues to live on.

As we remember Gary, we are reminded of the words of Vincent van Gogh, "The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths, it has its pearls too." Gary's life was much like the sea, with its ebb and flow, but he surely left us with many pearls of wisdom, laughter, and memories.

Gary's legacy will be carried on by his loving family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to be a guiding light, and his spirit will remain a comforting presence in the lives of his loved ones. As we bid farewell to Gary, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, creativity, and the kind of practical wisdom that made the world a better place. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Celebration of life details will be shared at a later date.
