Gabriel (Gabe) Dean Duran

May 4, 1957 — February 27, 2025

Gabriel (Gabe) Dean Duran, 67, of Topeka, KS, unexpectedly took a wrong turn and exited the highway of life on February 27, 2025. Gabe was born in Topeka, KS to Augustine and Rosario Duran. He went to Topeka High School and ultimately ended up at the Goodyear Topeka Tire Distribution Plant for over a span of 20 years.

Gabe was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Dena Duran. He is survived by his very patient ex-wife, Janice Duran, and their three beautiful daughters, Dedra Duran-Gray, Damitra Duran (Jovy) and Dana Duran. In addition, he had six amazing grandchildren, Quinton, Aidan, Mia, Kaylee, Keara, and Sophia. He is also survived by his three siblings, Rosalie Conley (William), Donald Duran (Rosie), Janet Wickham (Bill) and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Gabe was a tumultuous soul. He would be the first to give you the shirt off his back. And, depending on the day, he could also be the one to rip that shirt right back off someone. There was never a dull adventure when out and about with him. It was this charismatic quality that led to Gabe's most vibrant and colorful stories. Many have said a movie should be made about him. Gabe's gift of gab made these stories so much better and he loved to share them. His smile and laughter while telling them was infectious. His humor will be sorely missed.

In the center of his chest was truly a heart of gold. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether that was rolling burritos for a ballet fundraiser, copiloting on a road trip, attending games/field days, taking kids trick or treating, battling a wasp nest, or helping to remodel a bathroom. Gabe enjoyed spending time with his family, which was always filled with laughter and nonsense. He loved to joke and play pranks on those around him. You never knew what to expect. Gabe enjoyed driving fast and listening to alternative music loud, working out hard (while also listening to music loud), fishing with family, investigating paranormal activities, thunderstorms, visiting California, watching the San Francisco 49ers, and secretly eating sweets.

As per Gabe's wishes, he will be cremated and placed with his loving parents in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A private family service will be held at a later date. However, against his wishes, a public celebration of his life will be held on his birthday, Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Tecumseh Park Shelter, 4800 SE 2nd St., Tecumseh, KS from 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
