Floy Kathleen Mauk, a special education teacher and lifelong Wichita, Kansas native, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, in the company of loved ones, at the age of 72.
Floy is survived by her mother, Sibyl Jeanette York-Mauk; her daughter, Christina Elizabeth Penn; her brother-in-law, Christopher Clark Penn; and many friends and family. She is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Penn, Jr.
Floy was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 20, 1951, and was adopted by Harvey Mauk and Sibyl York-Mauk of Wichita, Kansas in 1953. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1969. She later attended Newman University and Wichita State University, and earned a master's degree with a focus on education.
Floy was a passionate environmentalist and early adopter of recycling. She had a deep love of animals and was a dedicated contributor to Kansas Humane Society. She was an avid gardener and was often seen tending her garden and house plants.
The family will conduct a memorial service in the Spring of 2024, with more details to come.
