Eula Mae Geyer Cowell, 98, passed away on Jan 18,2026 in Topeka, Kansas. She was born December 23, 1927 to Arthur Walter Geyer and Ethel Frances Fireoved Geyer, she was their fourth child.
She was a 1945 graduate of Topeka High School and a 1949 graduate of Washburn University earning a BA degree in Education. Eula Mae and Forrest Edwin Cowell were united in marriage June 26, 1949 at Oakland United Methodist Church celebrating 70 years of marriage prior to the passing of Forrest.
Eula Mae began her first year of teaching at Grant Elementary School, transferring to Sumner Elementary after the 1951 flood. With the approaching arrival of their first child, Eula Mae stopped teaching in 1953 to become a stay-at-home mother to Ellen and Sharon. She was an involved mother with volunteering at school, several years as a Girl Scout leader, and many church committees and activities.
Eula Mae returned to teaching in Sept 1967 teaching second grade at Whitson Elementary School retiring after 21 years. She had a lifelong love of reading and travel. Much travel was done as a family and then continued in retirement, traveling with Forrest to all 50 states, Europe, Canada and Caribbean cruises. Eula Mae volunteered at Lowman United Methodist Church especially mission activities and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
Eula Mae was predeceased by her husband, her parents, siblings Don Geyer, Fern Wendt, and Lucile Doyle, niece Marcia Jepsen, and son-in-law Allen Guthrie. She is survived by daughters Ellen Guthrie and Sharon Miller, both of Topeka. Grandchildren Erin Guthrie (Willis Warren) Raytown, MO and Royce Guthrie (Kara Guthrie) Junction City, KS. Great-grandchildren Isabella, Tobias, and Sebastian Guthrie, Junction City, KS, Thorton and Rockwell Warren, Raytown, MO and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday Jan 31 10am at Aldersgate Village, Wesley Hall 7220 SW Asbury Dr, Topeka, KS. Family will be available for visiting at 9am before the service. Inurnment will be later at Memorial Park Cemetery.
