Emery Rolfe Corbett passed away on July 20th at Aldersgate Village.
He was born on November 9th,1937 at El Reno, Oklahoma to Kenneth Conway and Racheal Alice (Allen) Corbett. They lived on a farm near El Reno until Emery was eleven, when they moved to Franklin County, Kansas and Emery finished his public schooling in Ottawa. While there he was active in 4-H and FFA and enjoyed being on dairy judging teams. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1955 and Kansas State University in 1960 with a BS in Dairy Husbandry. He won awards in Jersey Showmanship in KSU's Little American Royal. While at Kansas State he met Judy Stevens, and they were married in Ottawa in 1962.
Emery got a degree in Education and taught junior high science in Lawrence for eight years. After moving to Topeka, he sold real estate for several years, then established a house painting business he continued until he retired. Upon retirement he dabbled in antiques.
Preceding Emery in death were his parents, a brother, Kenneth Allen Corbett, a son, Steven Allen Corbett, and a granddaughter, Stephine Nicole Corbett. He was survived by his wife Judy, son Tim Corbett (Ali), grandsons Jesse Corbett and Tyler Corbett granddaughter Sarah (Jacoby Good) and a great-granddaughter Elizabeth Good. There are near-relatives, Ann Corbett and Samantha Brining and family that have a special place for Emery.
Emery was born a Baptist but upon marriage become a good Methodist. Emery went on several mission trips with Countryside United Methodist Church, helping rebuild after Hurricane Katrina and some Kansas tornadoes. He enjoyed passive participation in K-State sports, active participation in bowling when he was young and later chess, which were conducted loudly and sometimes profanely with his best buddy. He adored his children and his grandchildren, and they adored him back. People just liked him. He was a dog person and they sorta liked him too. He was kind, funny, lovable, supportive and just the best.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, KS.
