Elizabeth Anne Mccourtie

November 2, 1944 — December 16, 2019

Elizabeth Anne McCourtie made her transition from this earth on December 11, 2019. Anne was born on November 2, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Beckham Ross and Martha Anne McCourtie.

She graduated from Eastern Hills High School in Ft. Worth, Texas, and from Tulsa University, Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Science in psychology.

Although she was born in New Orleans and raised in Texas, Anne spent several years in Oklahoma during her marriage to Sam Downs, then it was back to Texas for a few years before she finally moved to Kansas in 1991 where she met and married John Huerter in 1995.

Anne's colorful work history included being a bookkeeper, a business college instructor, a photographer's assistant and a puppeteer as well as a job coach and service coordinator.

In 2000, due to health issues, Anne had to retire early from TARC where she worked for almost 10 years.

She was a member of Unity Church of Christianity, Topeka Business Professional Women's Club and Kansas Author's Club. As a writer, she published novels, short stories and poems as well as children's books and stories.

Anne is survived by her husband, John Huerter; her son, Thomas Michael Downs of Tyler, Texas; her daughter, Katharine Arroyo of China; and her sister, Frankie Tims of Burleson, Texas. There are also 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  A Celebration of life will be held at Unity Church of Christianity, Topeka, KS in the Spring (her favorite time of year).
