Edwin Kirk Bayless

July 5, 1958 — February 18, 2024

Edwin Kirk Bayless, known affectionately as Kirk, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas, after a valiant battle with cancer and heart failure. Born on July 5, 1958, to Harold E and Dolores Bayless, Kirk's life was one marked by dedication, love, and a joyous spirit that uplifted all who knew him.

Kirk was a true Topekan, not only in his birth and upbringing but also in his commitment to his community. He was a proud alumnus of Topeka High School and carried the values of his education throughout his life. His career was a reflection of his caring nature, as he spent many years serving veterans at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital until his retirement. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his deep respect and gratitude for those who served our country.

Family was the cornerstone of Kirk's life. He shared a loving marriage with his spouse, Penny Stukey, and together they raised three wonderful children: Cody W Bayless, Cory P Bayless, and Nicole L Bailey. Kirk was a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, whose lives are richer for his wisdom, kindness, and the laughter he brought into their lives. He was a brother to Harold, Darrell and his spouse Sue, Ryun, and Elizabeth Taylor, all of whom will fondly remember the bond they shared.

Kirk's passions went beyond his professional and family life. He was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. His love for gambling was well-known, always bringing excitement and a competitive spirit to the table. Above all, his greatest pleasure came from the time he spent surrounded by his family, creating memories that they will hold dear forever.

Kirk's legacy is one of unwavering love, dedication to service, and the simple joys of life. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his generous heart, and the gentle strength he provided to all who were lucky enough to have known him. His passing leaves a void in the fabric of his community and family, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide them.

As we bid farewell to Edwin Kirk Bayless, we reflect on a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His journey on earth has ended, but his story will be told for generations, through the lives of his family and the countless individuals he touched. Kirk's memory will be cherished and honored, as he rests now in peace.

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Lake Shawnee Shelter House #2, 3410 SE Leisure Lane, Topeka, KS 66605.
