Edward Leroy Nichols was a man who lived for his family. Born in Emporia, KS, Leroy grew up in a large family where he learned the values of loyalty, hard work, and looking out for those he loved.
Leroy proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1975 stationed in the Philippines. He worked for years at Iowa Beef Processing (IBP) in Emporia, where he built a life centered around his children and grandchildren. He was always there—whether it was Sunday family lunch, lending a helping hand, or reminding his daughters to take care of each other.
He was a protector, a provider, and a woodworker who could turn a simple piece of wood into something beautiful. His hands were rough from years of labor, but they were always steady and strong when helping his loved ones.
Leroy is survived by his children, Tina (Jeff) Ellerman, Janie (Bob) Duncan, Shirley Oliver, Shari (Shilo) Good and Naomi (Royal) Garnett; 20 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren; brothers, Nick, Dan, and John Nichols; sisters, Mary Tesh, Ruth Winkler and Carolyn Conley, each of whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry Edward and Naomi Ruth Nichols; siblings, David, Richy, Larry and Kathy; daughter, Carol Miller and great granddaughter, Jessalyn.
His legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. He was a man who overcame challenges and showed his family what it meant to be strong. We will miss him beyond words.
A celebration of life will be held at Del 5ive Event Center on March 15, 2025, from 2pm to 5pm. In honor of Leroy, spend time with your family, tell stories, and laugh together—just as he would have wanted.
