Edward "Eddie" Wayne Mailen passed away at his home on March 16,2023. He was born on April 13,1946 to Kenneth Walstine and Doris Lucille (Wilson) Mailen at the Del Monte hotel that had been converted into a Naval hospital in Monterey, CA.
Eddie and Sherrie Lynne Bloomquist were united in marriage March 28,1972 in Las Vegas, NV. He was a great man and loving husband. He will be deeply missed by his wife Sherrie, sons Bradley and Dion of Topeka, grandson Garrett, sisters Linda and Denise, brothers Corey and Monte. He also leaves behind his dogs, Henry, Joey, Marla, and Sugar. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth, his brother Richard and sister Sonya and his parents.
Eddie grew up and attended schools in the Topeka and Perry, Kansas areas as well as Mobile, Alabama. He lived predominantly with his grandparents Claude and Gladys Mailen in Thompsonville, KS after his parents divorced. After Perry High School he went on to attend trade school in Salina, KS. In the 70's he was self-employed with several businesses in Kansas and Arizona. He had many skills and worked in the air conditioning, appliance repair, auto and heavy truck repair fields. He ultimately retired from Sears Auto Center in Tucson, AZ.
Eddie and Sherrie were mobile with their jobs over their 50 years of marriage. Aside from living in Kansas communities, career moves took them to California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Florida. Eddie and Sherrie returned to Topeka from Arizona in 2020 to be closer to their sons after the deaths of several family members in 2019.
Eddie was a member of the Lake Shawnee ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Eddie loved to fish and occasionally hunt. He was an avid collector of knives and swords. He also cherished several guns.
Services will be held on Eddie's birthday April 13, 2023, at 12 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3611 SW Jewell Ave, Topeka, KS, followed by a luncheon. Private interment will be done later at American Cemetery, Osage County, KS.
