Earl Alan Ebert, 91, a long time resident of Topeka, passed away peacefully, 29 Jul 2020, residing at Aldersgate Hospice Memory Care.

Earl was born 9 Dec 1928 in Putnam, OK to Arthur and Laura Ebert and grew up in New Hampton MO. He graduated from high school in 1946 and enlisted in the Army National Guard (ANG) in 1948. He was blessed with an intertwined career and hobby that started as an automobile mechanic and machinist at a local car and tractor dealer where he met his wife, Iris Deen Hise. They were married in Albany Mo in1950. Earl's ANG unit was activated during the Korean War and he served in the 174th Military Police Battalion. His wife, Iris, passed away after giving birth to their daughter in 1952. Earl moved to Leavenworth KS and worked for Perry Black Motor Company and he met Bonnie J. Crook. They were married 6 Nov 1953, and shared over 66 years of marriage.

Also in 1953, Earl moved his family to Topeka where both of their sons were born. Earl was employed as a Mechanic, Service Writer, and Service Manager for Dale Sharp Cadillac and Pontiac Dealership. In 1973, Earl and Bonnie became co-owners of Gaslight Garage and ran that business until it closed in 1986.  Afterwards, Earl continued his pursuit in the restoration of antique and classic cars until he was no longer able to work. Earl was well-known throughout the Unites States for his expertise in rebuilding motors and was active in numerous car clubs, including the Antique Car Club of America (AACA) and the Classic Car Club of America. He held numerous positions within local clubs and chapters, and was recognized as a Chief Judge within the AACA. One of Earl's last projects was rebuilding the motor of a British 1950s era double-decker bus being restored by a brewery in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Earl was active within the Topeka community, a member of Northland Christian Church, a Master Mason (Orient Lodge #51), and a Shriner (Arab Shrine). Earl was always eager to help those in need, share his automotive and mechanical expertise, and provide a learning moment for those interested.

Earl was predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, daughter Valerie (Wayne) Rees, Auburn KS, sons Gary (Priscilla), Cocolalla ID, Michael (Debra), Lake Havasu City AZ, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Inurnment will be at Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Ks and a "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the family at www.midwestcremationsociety.com.
