Dorothy M. Newton 88, lost her battle with cancer on September 26, 2020. She was born in St. Paul, Kansas to Charles and Myrtle Thompson. She married Charles Newton in 1957 but they later divorced. The family moved to Topeka where she raised her 5 children, attended Washburn University part time, and embarked on her career in State Government.
Dorothy worked at Kansas Department of Health and Environment then transferred to the State Printer where she retired in 1993.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister who enjoyed watching the Royals, visiting the casino, and taking care of flowers. She was also an avid reader and loved books.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Peggy Bonneau, Topeka, Norma Doll, Hutchinson, and Erma Bush, Parsons, a son David L Newton, Sr, daughter-in-law Sandy Newton, great grandson Justin Roach all of Topeka and several Brothers-in-Law.
Survivors include sisters Frances Laue, Topeka, Charlene (Jerry) Abbott, Silver Lake, Patsy (Wayne) Marquardt, Parsons. Two sons, Mark, and Lonnie (Donna) Newton, two daughters, Melissa (Ed) Crane and Rhea Newton all of Topeka.
Eleven Grandchildren: David L Newton Jr, Craig Newton, Frank Newton, Mark Newton Jr, Amber Larson, Meagan Bowers, Ashley Hauber, Makenzie Blume, Abigail Blume, Chrissy Ficara, and Corey King. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606 in Dorothy's name.
To honor her wishes, there will be no funeral.
