Dorothy "Dottie" L. Green, 90, passed away March 30, 2016. She was born on July 17, 1925, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Charles Alonzo Frank and Dorsey Dell (Dobbins) Frank. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesney "Kelly" Green in 2012.
Dottie and Kelly were married in 1945 after Kelly's service in the Navy during WWII. They began their married life in Lawrence, KS, where Kelly attended the University of Kansas. Dottie and Kelly raised their three children and lived their entire lives in Kansas. After Lawrence, Kelly's life-long career as an engineer with Kansas Power & Light brought them to Abilene, Hutchinson, and Topeka. In retirement, they enjoyed country life on their farm near Mayetta before returning to Topeka.
For most of her adult life Dottie was an antiques dealer. She loved scouring the countryside looking for antiques – going to auctions, estate sales, or even sitting at the kitchen table of someone who had things to sell. She had a great eye for picking interesting, unique and good antiques. Her knowledge of antiques became great, but she always loved the challenge of identifying an antique that was unknown to her. Over the years, Dottie had several antique shops, booths in various antique malls, and set up her wares at the flea market in White Cloud. She was particularly proud to have traveled to twelve different states to sell at major antique shows. Although her passion for antiques was evident, it was the friendship, love and camaraderie of her fellow dealers that truly enriched every moment of her antiquing experience.
Dottie always preferred pursuits that allowed her to be creative or enjoy the creativity of others. Gardening, cooking, decorating, and especially designing things - these were just a few of her creative interests. She was fearless when it came to trying new things and usually didn't see the point of starting at the beginner level.
In all aspects of her long life, from raising kids to running a household to running her business, she infused a sense of dedication and kindness toward others.
Dottie is survived by her son Michael C. Green, Dolores, CO; daughter Amy L. McPheeters (Mike), Lawrence, KS; son Matthew L. Green (Socorro), New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren Adam Green (Cori), Lawrence, KS; Tyler McPheeters (Marla), Chicago, IL; Sean Green (Michelle), Olathe, KS; Shannon Green, Kansas City, KS; and many great-grandchildren.
Dottie's out-of-town and local family will gather at a later date to honor her memory and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dottie's name may be made to Van Go, Inc., 715 New Jersey, Lawrence, KS, 66044. (van-go.org)
