Donna Fern “Berridge” Baker

Donna Fern "Berridge" Baker was born, September 30, 1925, in Elmont, Kansas of John O. and Blanche "Marken" Berridge. She passed away peacefully at home, June 5, 2016, under the tender loving care of her sons Keith and Darrell, and her daughter Donna, guided by the wonderful staff at Grace Hospice. Keith will be especially blessed for his total devotion and care of the Mother we loved so much. Thank you, Keith, from all of us, we couldn't have kept her home like she wanted if it hadn't been for you.

She had lived in Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, then returned to Kansas in 1952 until her death. While residing in Illinois, she married Merlon J. Baker in 1945 then divorced in 1952. Two children were born of this union, Donna and Darrell. After returning to Kansas, she was married to Charles H. Baker from 1954 until his death in 1997. Two children were born of this union, Keith and Marvin.

Donna was an expert seamstress who worked in a garment factory, at an awning company and had her own drapery business for many years. Her children, grandchildren, many relatives and friends were the recipients of her many clothes, stuffed animals, quilts, doilies and wonderful food. Her hospitality was well known and appreciated. There was always room at the table for one more. She touched many lives with her love and talents and will leave a void in all those lives. Even though we will carry on without her, shed a tear from time to time and feel the emptiness after she left, we have the comfort of knowing that God in his mercy has a special place in heaven for servants like her. Rest in peace, Mom.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Charles, son Marvin, sisters Irene Nelson, May Anno, Margaret Walters, and brother Robert Berridge. Survivors include: Donna Spies, Darrell Baker, Keith Baker; grandchildren David and Chris Spies; Shane, Toni, and Jessica Baker; great-grandchildren Christopher, Brandon, Amanda, Sarah, Makayla and Kaitlyn Spies; Amanda and Andrew Baker; Colton and Logan Palmer; great-great-grandchildren Aiden and Colin Spies; and her many nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice or Sacred Heart – St. Joseph restoration fund.
