Donald Allen Viergever, Sr.

Donald Allen Viergever Sr., 91 of Auburn, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Don was born on December 16, 1931, in Valencia, Kansas, son of Andy and Lula (Simmons) Viergever. Don was a faith-filled individual whose life was marked by dedicated service to his family, country, and community.

Don graduated from Rossville High School in 1949. He answered his call of duty serving in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a brave soldier who embodied the values of honor and integrity, traits that remained with him throughout his life. After his service, Don returned to Kansas, where he built a successful career as a truck driver, plumber, and pipefitter. His hard work and dedication led him to become a respected member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 441 for 50 years.

On February 17, 1953, Don married the love of his life, Anna Mae (Walthall), in Silver Lake, KS. Together, they raised a wonderful family, instilling in their children the importance of faith, love and hard work. Don is survived by his son, Don (Laura) Viergever Jr., Topeka, KS; daughter-in-law, Karen Viergever of Silver Lake, KS and daughter, Theresa Viergever-Love of Auburn, KS.

Don was a proud grandfather to Bill Viergever of Eskridge, KS; Christina (Jay) Thowe of Caballo, NM; Rob Love of Topeka, KS; Amber Love of Topeka, KS; Lisa (Huston) Hund of Meridan, KS. His eight great-grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.

Other survivors include four siblings; Rose Marie (Jo) Anderson, Auburn, KS; Larry (Janet) Viergever, Sarasota, FL; David Viergever, Morton, IL.; and Darrell (Debbie) Viergever, Mayetta, KS. Don also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, who will miss their fun-loving uncle dearly.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Mae; his son Randy Viergever; and siblings Glenn, Helen, Tony and Kathy Viergever.

In the early 60's, he enjoyed racing stock cars, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for speed. His passion for music led him to play in several bands, where his talent and enthusiasm were always on full display.

Don's life was a testament to his faith-filled spirit and his unwavering commitment to his family and community. He was a role model to many, inspiring those around him with his perseverance, generosity, and infectious zest for life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Dover Federated Church Fellowship Hall, 13535 SW 57th St., Dover, KS 66610.

Don will be remembered not only for his remarkable life journey but for the love, joy, and inspiration he brought to those around him. His legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, filled with faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to family. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
